Obituary for Jack A. Higgs
Jack Alan Higgs, age 82 of Oakland, IL, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Carle Hospital. Jack was born August 24, 1936 in Charleston, IL, to Paul S. and Jesse Ruth (Ashmore) Higgs. He married Carolyn J. Plotner on August 25, 1957, and they enjoyed 61 years together. She survives. Jack was a member of the Illinois National Guard HHT Troop 1/106 Cavalry from 1960 to 1966, and a member of the Brocton American Legion Post 997. He achieved a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1964 and a master’s degree in education from the University of Illinois in 1970 and taught at Champaign Central High School. Jack loved being outdoors, and especially enjoyed fishing. Krabel Funeral Home is assisting the family, and they will hold a private memorial at a later date. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland-Hindsboro Charitable Foundation or to the Oakland High School National Honor Society.
