Obituary for Duane Keith Oakley
Duane Keith Oakley, age 67, of Ashmore, IL went home to be with the Lord at his home on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Duane was born July 14, 1945 in Cumberland County, IL. He married Maranna Yvonne Leonard on June 10, 1967 in Charleston, IL; she survives. He is also survived by two sons: Richard (Cindy) Oakley of Bethany, IL and Darin Oakley of Rantoul, IL; two granddaughters: Elizabeth (Delbert) Anderson of Tuscola, IL and Shelby Oakley of Bethany, IL; one great-granddaughter, Audrey Anderson of Tuscola, IL; and many extended family members and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Evelyn (Martiner) Oakley. Duane lived in Ashmore for two years, coming from Newman, IL. He was an ordained minister for the Church of God (Anderson) and was retired after many years in full time ministry, most recently serving the First Church of God in Newman for eighteen and a half years. Prior to entering the ministry, he worked for several years as a supervisor for Ozark Airlines and TWA. He also owned and operated the Sullivan Travel Service and Shelbyville Travel Service. He was a graduate of Cumberland High School and attended Lakeland College, Eastern Illinois University and Mid America Christian University in Oklahoma City, where he earned a number of degrees. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Duane served as chaplain for the Newman American Legion Post #201 and was a member of the Marine Corps League and the Central Illinois Ministerial Association. He loved sailing, reading, and playing the saxophone, he was an avid history buff and he enjoyed hunting and golf. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Augusta Cemetery with military rites provided by the Newman American Legion Post #201. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Newman American Legion Post #201 building fund.
