Obituary for Shirley Jean Farris
CHARLESTON, IL --- Shirley Jean Hunt Farris, age 57 of Charleston passed away at 2:28 PM, Friday, December 4, 2009 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 9 at the Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, Illinois. Pastor Roger Woods will officiate. There will be no visitation. Standard Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements. Shirley Jean Hunt was born on March 18, 1952 in Cadiz, Kentucky, the daughter of Lloyd and Dorothy Hunt. She was educated in Mattoon, Illinois. On November 13, 1982 she married Norman Farris, and he preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Farris of Charleston, and Larry Ames of Virginia; one daughter, Maria Royse and husband Shannon of Peru, Illinois; two brothers, Lloyd Hunt, Jr. and Daniel Hunt, Sr., both of Mattoon; six sisters, Orpha Hunt Farris, Mary Pearcy, Lora Hunt, Martha DeLong, and Brenda Hunt, all of Mattoon, and Kim J. Brant and husband Kim of Charleston; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one sister. Shirley was a homemaker who loved wrestling, her pets, and soap operas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be sadly missed by one and all. A memorial fund is being established for Shirley’s family.
