Obituary for Orlen Darrell Brown
Orlen Darrell Brown, age 81, of Oakland IL, passed away Wednesday December 21, 2016. He was born in Oakland on June 29, 1935; the son of Olen and Juanita Brown. He married Anita Ann Ashmore on June 2, 1957. Orlen attended the Oakland Christian Church and was a member of the United States Trotting Horse Association. He loved horses, fixing lawn mowers and tinkering with everything. He also enjoyed mowing the lawn. During his college days, he was named Eastern Illinois University Football Most Valuable Player and received an award for Scholastic Athlete of the Year. He is survived by two sons; Mark (Linda) Brown of Chatham IL and Bryce Brown of Effingham IL; siblings; Doug Brown of Belleville, MI; Melvin (Pat) Brown of Belvidere, IL; Darlene Henkes of Brigantine, NJ; Velma (Frank) Crawford of Caledonia, IL; Janice Apple of Oakland, IL and Beverly Farthing of Charleston, IL; and a granddaughter, Chrissy Brown of Atlanta, GA. Orlen was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, December 28 at 12:00p.m., with a visitation to be held two hours prior at 10:00a.m. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland Hindsboro Charitable Foundation.
