Obituary for Mary Esther Callahan
Mary Esther (Buntain) Callahan, age 92 of Paris and formerly of Chrisman went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Paris Healthcare Center. Mary was born May 26, 1920 in rural Paris, IL to Clyde Emmett “Jake” and Laura Ellen “Nelle” (Pennington) Buntain. She married Owen Ray Curtis on February 20, 1945; he preceded her in death. She later married Howard Callahan, who also preceded her in death. Mary was a lifelong resident of Edgar County. She was a member of the Ridge Farm United Methodist Church for over 65 years, where she served as Sunday School superintendent and belonged to the United Methodist Women’s Society. She was previously employed as a secretary for Community Unit #6 for 25 years. She loved to cook and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a great mother and loved to entertain others. She is survived by a son, Stephen (June Ann) Curtis of Paris, IL; a brother, Clyde Alan Buntain of Asheville, NC; one grandchild and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, beginning at noon. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Ridge Farm United Methodist Church, the Epilepsy Foundation or Gideons International in care of the funeral home. .
