Mary Delorma (Hawkins) Ewing, age 90, of Brocton, IL, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center following a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, after enjoying an afternoon with her family at Arbor Rose in Charleston.
She was the daughter of Clifford and Gladys (Dowler) Hawkins. Mrs. Ewing was born March 25, 1926 in Oakland, IL on the family farm. She married David Ewing on November 12, 1949 at the Oakland Christian Church. She and David shared a wonderful life on their farm west of Brocton for 66 years. Mrs. Ewing worked at the Oakland National Bank for 18 years and the Edgar County Bank for two years. She was a member of the Brocton Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Ewing enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved music, and loved her farm life with her husband.
Surviving family include her loving husband, David; one daughter: Carol Kelly of Collinsville, IL; one son: James Ewing and friend, Sandra King of Oakland, IL; two grandsons: Sean (Celeste) Pearcy of Lafayette, CO and Jesse (Emily) Ewing of Paris, IL; two great-grandsons: Jordan and Reed Ewing; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
A celebration of life will held Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Brocton Christian Church or Pleasant Hill Church in Grandview, IL.
