Obituary for Mike Powell
Michael “Mike” Ray Powell, age 63 of Chrisman, Illinois, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois, surrounded by family and friends.
Mike was born January 12, 1952 in Danville, Illinois to Robert and Barbara (Norman) Powell. He graduated from Chrisman High School in 1970. Mike had a long career as a salesman including working at Danville Equipment Company selling semi-trailers and trucks. He managed the Standard Service Station in Chrisman. For the past thirty-three years Mike was the Chevrolet sales manager in Chrisman and Cayuga, Indiana. He had many life-long customers and sold cars to generations of families. He cherished the relationships he made throughout his career. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for friends and family. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching college basketball and golf.
He is survived by a sister, Marla (Gene) Hart, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Mark, of Sidell, Illinois; a step-daughter, Jamie Richards of Casey, Illinois; a step-son, Danny Thompson of Marshall, Illinois; one niece, DeeDee Webb; four nephews, Garrett Hart, Dalton Hart, Darren Powell and Daine Powell; six step-grandchildren; his loved friend and partner of ten years, Sandy Creek of Chrisman and their schnauzer, Lilly.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chrisman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Chrisman First Baptist Church.
