Joseph Lawrence Krabel, age 62 of Hume, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 16, 2012 while working on the family farm he loved. Joe was born February 27, 1950 in Tuscola, IL to Carl James and Rosalee (Craig) Krabel. He married Pamela Smith Gilkerson on January 22, 1994 at the Brocton Christian Church; she survives. He is also survived by his mother, Rosalee Krabel of Brocton, IL; two children: Brad (Marcela) Krabel of St. Charles, IL and Melinda (Nick) Doty of Dunlap, IL; three step children: Tina (Fred) Queary of Midland, MI, Melinda Jones of North Liberty, IA and Michael (Allison) Lowery of Westfield, IL; seventeen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Krabel and a brother, John Krabel. Joe was a lifelong resident of Edgar County. He was a member and elder at the Hume Christian Church and sang in the choir. He also served on the Shiloh School Board for seven years, the Young America Township Board, the Payne Cemetery Board and the Hughes Drainage District Board. Joe loved farming and he spent his life working on his family’s farm alongside his parents, brother and nephews. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, and a good neighbor and friend to many. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Young America Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Hume Christian Church.
