Obituary for M. Ruth Carr
Mary “Ruth” Carr, age 75 of Oakland, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, IL. Ruth was born October 20, 1936 in Kankakee, IL to Joe and Mary Alice (Nowman) Rhodes. She married Roy Carr on September 27, 1952 in Wilmington, IL, and they lived in Oakland for 43 years. She worked as a beautician, and she and her husband ran a beauty/barber shop for many years. Ruth enjoyed birds, painting, and gardening, and was a wonderful cook. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed by the many friends and family whose lives she touched. She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Roy Carr of Oakland, IL; a daughter, Deb (Denny) Duzan of Oakland, IL; two sons, Michael (Debbie) Carr of Findlay, IL and Sam (Faith) Carr of Oakland, IL; five brothers, Bob (Carol) Rhodes of Oakland, IL, David (Shirley) Rhodes of Dewitt, IL, Tom Rhodes of Decatur, IL, Kenny (Nancy) Rhodes of Bourbonais, IL and Betty (David) Casteel of Bourbonais, IL; a sister, Kate Covey of Bourbonais, IL; eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Herman Rhodes. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland Food Pantry.
