Obituary for Marilyn S. Bevill
OAKLAND, IL --- Marilyn S. Bevill, age 73 of Oakland, passed away at 4:40 PM, Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 7 at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland, with Reverend Robert E. Lee officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Friday at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland, where the family will be present for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday evening. Marilyn Sue was born on March 18, 1936 in Christopher, Illinois, the daughter of Harry N. and Ella E. Spann Harvey. She was educated in Christopher, Illinois, graduating from Christopher High School in 1954. On May 23, 1953 she married Richard Fitzhugh Bevill in Corinth, Mississippi. Survivors include her husband, Richard Bevill of Oakland; one daughter, Alicia Davis and husband Joe of Athens, Georgia; one son, Brian Bevill of Charleston; two grandsons, Drake and Drew Bevill; four granddaughters, Jade Bevill, and Mia Catherine, Ella, and Julia Davis; and one sister, Sharon Harvey of Champaign. She was preceded in death by her parents. Marilyn was a homemaker, wife, and mother, and enjoyed growing her own food and cooking it. She was very involved in the produce business with her husband at River Bend Farm. In her earlier years, Marilyn worked for the Illinois Geological Survey and the Illinois State Water Survey. She was also employed through the University of Illinois, and later worked as a receptionist in the veterinary office she and her husband owned in Sesser, Illinois. Marilyn was a member of the Coles County Farm Bureau and the University of Illinois Veterinary Wives. She was an excellent typist and stenographer, and loved to read and work word puzzles. A memorial fund is being established for the ALS Foundation.
