Obituary for Marguerite Emaline Anderson
Marguerite Emaline Anderson, age 102, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 6, 2012 at Hilltop Convalescent Center. Marguerite was born November 2, 1909 in Jasper County, IL to James Edward and Mina (Newlin) Wilson. She married George Alex Anderson on July 1, 1928. Marguerite was a long time farm wife who worked hard at home cooking, cleaning, and doing yard and garden work. She was an excellent cook, using an iron skillet and lard as her main tools. She used those cooking skills after moving to town and becoming a cook for the Oakland School District. She loved talking about her days as a school cook, warmly remembering her co-workers and the “from scratch” recipes they used. She was well known for her pie baking and provided pies for many church functions and family dinners. She loved her Hindsboro Methodist Church family, where she was a member for more than 50 years. She never missed a Sunday morning of Sunday school classes and singing hymns. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and also a strong supporter of the Republican Party. Marguerite loved to tell stories, particularly old family stories. She would talk about her family for as long as you would sit and listen. She prided herself on remembering all of these events and the particpants’ names, even at age 102. Everyone was always amazed at her wonderful memory. She is survived by her son, Doyle Anderson of Charleston, IL; three grandchildren: Bonnie Kile of Tuscola, IL, Mike (Kathleen Anderson) of Hindsboro, IL and Terri (Jim) Hopper of Collison, IL; six great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Marguerite and Alex were the beginning of five generations of family and everyone from her son, Doyle, to her great-great-grandchildren were equally special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ione Wilson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hindsboro United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Van Voorhis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Hindsboro United Methodist Church. Krabel Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family.
