Zora A. Moore passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 at Newman Rehabilitation Center. She was 101 years and eight months old.
Zora A. Miller was born June 16, 1914 near Fisher, IL. She married Ray Moore on March 23, 1933. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Noel) Biery of Beecher, IL; a son, Darrel (Randi) Moore of Oakland, IL; four grandchildren: Adam Moore, Andrew Moore, Dan Biery and Mark Biery; and five great-grandchildren: Corisa Moore, Ryan Biery, Nathan Biery, Madelyn Moore and Katelyn Moore.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Elwood T. and Carrie Minks Miller of Fisher, IL; two brothers: Earl Miller of Fisher, IL and Dale Miller of Venice, FL; a sister, Helen Burnsmier of Sullivan, IL; her husband, Ray Moore; a son, Robert Moore; and a great-grandson, Dustin Allen.
She and her husband farmed for 40 years in the Tolono, Murdock and Newman Area. They retired in 1971 and moved to Oakland, IL. She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was named Oakland Citizen of the Year in 1983. She was active in Senior Citizens Landmarks, the Oakland Historical Foundation, the Columbia Building Association, and a volunteer at the Rutherford House. She also worked part time at the Outback Antique Store in Oakland. Before moving to Oakland, she served as president of the Douglas County Homemakers. Her hobbies included quilts, dolls, gardening and other handicrafts.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Krabel Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Newman Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland United Methodist Church or the Oakland Memorial Library.
