Obituary for William Terry Akers

William Terry Akers, age 63, of Oakland, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon. Terry was born September 16, 1948 in Mattoon, IL to Robert Donald “Shorty” and Ruby Maxine (Swick) Akers. He married Donna Jean Duzan on July 7, 1967 at the Oakland Christian Church; she survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Carmen Neeley and husband, Bryan, of Jacksonville, IL; a son, Cameron Akers of Fayetteville, NC; a brother, Robert (Sue) Akers Jr. of Mt. Morris, IL; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Kassidy and Brock Neeley of Jacksonville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judith Rohr. Terry was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War and achieving a rank of Master Sgt./Communications Expert. He lived in Oakland since 1977 and was a farm manager for over 20 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #219. He was an avid reader, and also loved NASCAR and enjoyed yard work. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Masonic rites will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, with military rites provided by Oakland VFW Post 3637 and Brocton American Legion Post 977. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland Memorial Library.
