Obituary for William L Sterling
William “Bill” Leon Sterling, age 81, of Rockford, Illinois and formerly of Tyler, Texas and Brocton, Illinois, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Provena St. Anne Center in Rockford. Mr. Sterling was born July 6, 1928 in Isabel, Illinois to Paul Walter and Inez (Zeigler) Sterling. He served in the Merchant Marines, and later joined the Army Air Corps. He worked as a salesperson in the entertainment industry. He was a member of the Beth Eden United Methodist Church and the Rockford American Legion. He loved auto racing and enjoyed lawn and landscaping work. He is survived by his wife, Wanda “Micki” (Rosebraugh) Sterling; three sons: Larry Sterling of Caledonia, IL, Mark Sterling of LaPorte, IN, and Curt Sterling of FL; two brothers: Bob (Julie) Sterling of Charleston, IL and Paul “Bus” (Jean) Sterling of Paris, IL; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 9. 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL, with Brother Virgil Haynes officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Payne Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Brocton American Legion.
