Obituary for Tom Burtner
Oakland, IL – Tom Burtner, 85, of Paris, Illinois formerly of Oakland died Saturday morning (October 10, 2009) at the Paris Health Care Center in Paris. His funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Standard Funeral Home in Oakland. Father Barry Harmon of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Oakland with full military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home. He was born October 23, 1923 in Oakland to Clarence and Delilah (Miller) Burtner. He married the former Mary Louise Placier on January 2, 1945. She preceded him in death on October 17, 2000. He is survived by a daughter, Annette (Darrell) Duzan of Oakland; two sons, Charles Thomas (Linda) Burtner Jr. of Marshall and Timothy Ray (Sheila) Burtner of Loda; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and a sister, Mary (Gayle) Daughtery of Arthur. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister and one brother. He was raised in Oakland and attended Oakland Grade School and graduated from Oakland High School. He entered the United States Army Air Corp and served during World War II. He had been employed by U.S.I. in Tuscola as an operating engineer and was also an independent sign painter. He loved to fly radio controlled model airplanes and was a member of the R.C. Model Airplane Club. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola and was a former member of the Lions Club. Memorials may be directed to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola.
