Thomas Edward Stewart, age 90, of Effingham, IL, and formerly of Oakland, IL and Tuscola, IL, died Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Tom was born December 16, 1934, in Oakland, IL, to Walter Francis and Thelma Louise (Kyle) Stewart. He married Diane Jo Hanner on September 20, 1959, at the Oakland United Methodist Church, and they were married for 65 years.
Tom was horologist by trade, working as a watchmaker and later working on larger clocks as well. He was a member of the Hindsboro United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy. He previously served as regional president of AMBUCS and was a Tuscola volunteer firefighter, and was a member of the Illinois Watchmakers Association, Lion’s Club, and Tuscola Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Stewart, of Effingham, IL; three children: Kristine Anne Smith (Mark) Effingham, IL, Marti Sue Quinones (Jim) of Canton, IL, John William Stewart (Kristi Hamrick) of Paris, IL; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Online messages of sympathy may be left at www.krabelfuneralhome.com.
