Obituary for Steven Alan Cox
Steven Alan Cox, age 53, of Oakland, IL went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Steve was born March 4, 1962 in Charleston, IL to Orvil Pearl and Kathryn Ellen (Mapes) Cox. He married Severina Adames De Los Santos on March 29, 2008 at the Antioch Baptist Church in Oakland; she survives.
He is also survived by three children: Kara Cox of Waterloo, IL, Jordan Cox of Mt. Carmel, IL and Bonnie Cox of Mt. Carmel, IL; his parents: Pearl and Kathryn Cox of Oakland, IL; a brother: Jerry Cox of St. Joseph, IL; a sister: Janna Woodard of Yorkville, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister: Darla Cox; and his grandparents: Charles and Bonnie Mapes, and Orville and Flo Cox.
Steve was employed as a manager at Security Finance in Paris, IL. He was a member of the Antioch Separate Baptist Church, and was active in many community and civic organizations, including: Illinois Club Lamb Association, Coles County Farm Bureau, SIUC Alumni Association, FFA Alumni, Coles-Moultrie Electric Coop Board, past Oakland School Board member, Ashmore Masonic Lodge, and Ashmore Lions Club. Steve also previously taught agriculture and served as FFA Advisor for several years at Paris High School, and recently volunteered many hours as a Tri-County JFL coach. He loved to cook and bake, and enjoyed fishing and showing sheep. He was actively involved in Antioch’s church camp activities and was passionate about his family croquet games.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Separate Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Camp.
