Obituary for Sonna (Son) Hester
Sonna (Son) Hester, age 83 of Ridge Farm, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Sonna was born June 17, 1931 in Danville, IL to Melvin and Opal (Scott) Son. She married Parris Hester, and he preceded her in death in 1992. She lived in Ridge Farm over fifty years and was a homemaker and a third generation farm owner. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Sonna was an avid reader and a fan of black and white movies. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, refinishing antiques, and owned and operated an antique store. She loved her family dearly and was especially proud of her grandsons.
She is survived by two sons: John W. Hester of Fort Pierce, FL and James (Tracy) Hester of Ridge Farm, IL; a daughter, Julie A. Drollinger of Hoopeston, IL; a brother, William (Kerry) Son of Danville, IL; a sister-in-law, JoAnn (Don) Leighty of Danville, IL; and three grandchildren: Christopher R. Land of Ridge Farm, IL, Patrick G. Drollinger of Hoopeston, IL and Colton P. Hester of Fort Pierce, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Vermilion Grove Friends Chapel. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Vermilion Grove Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the Ridge Farm War Memorial in care of the funeral home.
