Obituary for Shaun L. Hixson
Shaun L. Hixson, age 57, died Monday, July 26, 2021 in rural Edgar County, IL. He was born June 23, 1964 in Paris, IL to Harry Isaac and Phyllis Mayre (Weasel) Hixson. Shaun was born and raised in the Paris area and after the death of his parents, took over the family home and farm. He spent many years working with FS and Rural King as well as building the family farm. Along the way, he made sure to pass on all that he knew about life and farming to his children. With Shaun, there wasn’t a conversation that didn’t contain some sort of life lesson or learnings. Always with a mason jar and jug of tea in tow, Shaun enjoyed being able to help his children and friends often. He had a love for tinkering around the farm and inside on his crafts; it would seem there wasn’t a job or task he couldn’t accomplish. Shaun was most known for his cooking – whether he was baking up a dessert or fixing up roast and noodles, he loved his community (extended family) and always made sure they knew he cared through a covered dish. While most would quickly note Shaun’s love of farming, especially growing Indian corn and pumpkins, his greatest passion was being PawPaw to his 3 grandchildren. He loved to play board games with the grandkids, would frequently help out when they were sick, and was always showing them what the farm life was all about. He is survived by two children: Sharlene Hixson of Paris, IL and Jacob Hixson (Krystal Rose) of Mattoon, IL; three brothers: Steve (Cammie) Hixson of Paris, IL, Scott Hixson of Paris, IL, and Stace Hixson of Newman, IL; a sister: Sue Hixson of Evansville, IN; three grandchildren: Elyssa Ford, Fitz Rose-Hixson, and Theo Rose-Hixson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Embarrass Cemetery.
