Obituary for Ruth V. Geiling
BROCTON, IL --- Ruth V. Geiling, age 88 of Marshall, Indiana, formerly of Brocton, passed away at 1:18 AM, Monday, February 22, 2010 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 26 at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland, with Reverend Virgil Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery, north of Brocton. Friends may call after noon on Thursday at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland, where the family will be present for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday evening. Ruth was born on April 4, 1921 in White River, South Dakota, the daughter of Jesse Hiram and Sarah Inez Fisher Walker. She graduated from Brocton High School in 1939, and completed a course of study at a beauty college. On December 19, 1941 she married Charles Dean Geiling in Henderson, Kentucky, and he preceded her in death on November 9, 1999. Survivors include one son, Ron Geiling and wife Ginny of Brocton; one daughter Carolyn Barth and husband Tom of Marshall, Indiana; four grandchildren, Jason Geiling, Melanie Neal, Jennifer Barth, and Melissa Barth; and two step-grandchildren, Deborah Price and John Shriver. She was preceded in death by her husband, one granddaughter Emily Barth, three sisters, and one brother. Ruth was a homemaker, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed being at home caring for her family. She had spent all of her adult life in Brocton. Ruth was a member of the Brocton Christian Church, and the Brocton Bunco Club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, word search puzzles, scrabble, dominoes, euchre, camping, and boating. A memorial fund is being established for the Brocton Christian Church, or Brocton Peace Meal.
