Obituary for Roy Allen Walsh
Roy Allen Walsh, age 82, of Metcalf, IL and formerly of Oakland, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 21, 2017.
Roy was born February 17, 1935 in Oakland, IL to Charles Nathan and Clarice Irene (Hanner) Walsh. He was raised by his maternal grandmother after his mother’s death, and could also be known as Roy Hanner for much of his childhood. Roy married Anna Marie Johnson on August 9, 1955 in Elkton, MD and they were married for 62 years.
Roy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and worked as a farmer. He belonged to the Paris Southern Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and elder for many years. He was a member of the Hume American Legion Post #369. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and working outdoors, and watching sports on television.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Walsh; a daughter: Benita (James) Wallace of Leander, TX; two brothers: Rex (Barbara) of Olathe, KS and Kenny (Linda) Ellis of Hume, IL; and a sister: Linda Gallatin of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Shields Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made in care of the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses.
