Obituary for Robert Riggs Yontz, Jr.

Bob Yontz of Freeport, Illinois passed away on Tuesday January 22, 2013. Bob was born on April 14, 1939 in Aurora, Illinois to Bob Yontz Sr. & Lucille Stoddard Yontz. Bob grew up in Chrisman, Illinois. He graduated from Chrisman High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1959 and served until 1963. Bob received degrees from Eastern Illinois University, University of Illinois and St. Louis University. Bobs’ life was spent living in various places. Among them were Wisconsin, South Carolina, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Illinois. Bob was a lifelong educator and librarian. Bob was an academic to the core and had a tremendous social conscience. After his retirement in 2004 he continued to challenge his mind by enrolling in advanced mathematics courses. He enjoyed reading and listening to news and sporting events. Bob was an avid follower of Illini sports. Bob is survived by his two sons, Robby Yontz of St. Louis, Missouri; David Yontz of Columbia, Missouri; three grandchildren, Isaac, Leo and Zipporah Yontz of Columbia, Missouri; sister Katrina Archer(Nelson) of Chatham, Illinois; brother in law Isaac Marcadis of West Palm Beach, Florida; nieces Rebecca Swords(Tim) of West Palm Beach Florida; Deborah Marcadis(John) of Atlanta, Georgia; Miriam Kisch(Glenn) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Amy Jachim(Jeff) of Lisle, Illinois; and nephew Jeff Archer(Kristi) of Decatur, Illinois. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister Elizabeth Yontz Marcadis. Graveside services will be held in Chrisman, Illinois at Woodland Cemetery on Saturday February 2, 2013 at 11 AM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Chrisman Public Library, 108 North Illinois St. Chrisman, IL 61924.
