Robert Arthur McConkey, age 88, died Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Bob was born June 30, 1934, in Redmon, IL to Homer Dewinn and Nora Elizabeth (Taber) McConkey. He married Patricia Ann Elam on December 5, 1954; she preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters: Deborah Hardin of Tuscola, IL, and Robin Ray of Tuscola, IL; a son: Dale McConkey of Oakland, IL; five grandchildren: Misty (David) Manning, Jason (Amber) Skinner, Joshua Addis, Alisha (Matt) Shinn, and Holden (Kaila) McConkey; ten great-grandchildren: Bryce, Michael, Emily, Dalton, Deacon, Jacob, Dylan, Kalen, Scarlett, and Ruby; and special sister-in-law: Caroline Elam and niece, Mindy Elam. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Bill McConkey and Ronnie McConkey.
Bob owned and operated Bob’s Service in Oakland, IL for 31 years, until his retirement in 2008. He served as chairman of the Oakland Corn & Bean Festival for 15 years, and as a volunteer with the Oakland Fire Department for 11 years. After his retirement, he had a coffee club in his garage and enjoyed the conversation and company of his friends. Bob loved working outside, whether gardening, planting flowers or mowing. He enjoyed riding around town, and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at noon. Burial will follow in Embarrass Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials in Bob’s honor may be made to Krabel Funeral Home.
