Obituary for Richard Taylor
Richard H. “Dick” Taylor, age 82, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at his home.
Dick was born September 26, 1931 in Rardin to Roschen and Oather (Pfeiffer) Taylor. He married Jane Wigginton on December 12, 1954 in Oakland, IL; she survives.
He is also survived by three children: Brad (Jeannie) Taylor of Oakland, IL, Craig Taylor of Oakland, IL and Andrea (Jeff) Taylor Flairty of Bloomington, IL; a sister, Barbara (Gene) Abrams of Springfield, MO; two brothers: Jim (Mary) Taylor of Oakland, IL and Calvin (Nancy) Taylor of Oakland, IL; nine grandchildren: Erin (Jake) Mooney of Terre Haute, IN, Cole Taylor of Bradenton, FL, Ryan (Becky) Taylor of Norfolk, NE, Luke (Meg) Taylor of Oakland, IL, Brett Taylor of St. Louis, MO, Matthew and Jonathan Taylor of Oakland, IL, and Shae and Gage Flairty of Bloomington, IL; and two great-grandchildren: Grace and Will Mooney of Terre Haute, IN. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Zach Taylor and a daughter-in-law, Angela Taylor.
Dick was a lifelong resident of Oakland and farmed in the area. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge, the Ansar Shrine Club, a lifetime member of the American Angus Association, the Oakland V.F.W. Post #3637, and the Embarrass Valley Coal Association. He served many years on the Oakland School Board and the Oakland Park District, where he served during the construction of the Oakland Pool. Dick enjoyed shooting sporting clays, following his grandchildren’s activities, raising and showing Angus cattle and spending his mornings with friends at the coffee shop.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Oakland V.F.W. Post #3637. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland Park District.
