Obituary for Richard Leonetti
Richard Emil Leonetti, age 62, of Hindsboro, IL, died Sunday, January 23, 2022, at his mother’s home in Oakland, IL after a year-long battle with cancer.
Rick was born August 23, 1959, in Elmhurst, IL to Emil Armand Leonetti and Dorothy Lee (Payne) Trapani. He moved to the Oakland area in 1992 and worked as a bridge inspector for IDOT. Rick was a motorcycle enthusiast and a member of A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois. Outdoors he enjoyed fishing and had a gift for finding morel mushrooms. He was a die-hard Bears and Cubs fan, and had an accomplished career in karate, having achieved a third-degree black belt. Rick’s greatest source of joy was spending time with his family and friends.
Rick is survived by four children: Shawna (Greg) Finks of Hillsboro, IL, Shannon Leonetti of Oakland, IL, Ryan Leonetti of Casey, IL, and Kyle Leonetti (Shilo Trowbridge) of Maryland Heights, MO; his mother: Dorothy Trapani of Oakland, IL; his father: Emil Leonetti of Trevor, WI; four siblings: Karin (Brian) Rekart of Oakland, IL, Kimberly (Tim) Goodacre of Oakland, IL, Misty (Frank) Vader of Trevor, WI, and Richard (Carol) Kanowske of Fargo, ND; and nine grandchildren. He also had many cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly and who loved him just as much. He was preceded in death by a stepmother: Patty Leonetti; a stepfather: Leon Trapani; a brother: Mike Leonetti; and a sister: Kelli Leonetti.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 3:00 p.m. The family encourages casual dress, and anyone is welcome to wear their favorite sleeveless “Rick shirt.”
