Obituary for Rev. George H.D. Reader
Rev. George H.D. Reader, age 109, of Chrisman, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Presence Samaritans Hospital in Danville, IL. He was born in Sprague, MO on September 13, 1906 to John and Louisa Reader, and he was raised in a good Christian home. God called him to the ministry in 1920. He married Gertrude M. Sill on Thanksgiving Day in 1928 and they raised four boys: John, Paul James and Daniel. Rev. Reader attended John Fletcher College and Olivet College and graduated from Seminary. After Seminary, he completed over two hundred semester hours of education beyond his master’s degree. Most of his ministry was served in Illinois and Indiana. He also served as a trustee of Olivet Nazarene University for 21 years, and served on many district offices of the Illinois District of the Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by two sons: John W. (Lois) Reader of Bourbonnais, IL, and Daniel L. (Verna) Reader of Naples, FL; two daughters-in-law: Deloris Reader (wife of Paul) of Okemos, MI, and Mary Lou Reader (wife of James) of Chrisman, IL; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gertrude; and two sons, Paul and James Reader. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene for the Rev. George Reader Scholarship Fund.
