Patricia (Pat) Ann Casey, 91, of Charleston died August 12, 2024. She was born in Raymond, Illinois, September 21, 1932, to Ralph and Augusta Casey. She graduated from Oakland High School, Oakland, Illinois in 1950. She received her B.S. in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1954. She later earned her M. S. in Education from EIU.
She leaves a brother: Charles R. Casey, Charleston, Illinois; a niece: Jackie (Perry) Hampton, St Leonard, Maryland; a nephew Geoffrey (Angie) Casey, Annapolis, Maryland; and a niece by marriage: Nancy Newman, Baltimore, Maryland; and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Jack Casey, and nephew: David Casey.
Teaching second graders for over 38 years, she started her teaching career at Riverside School in Decatur, Illinois, moved to Mound Elementary (Decatur) and then finished at Parsons Elementary (Decatur) teaching over 1,000 children. She was a member of the Decatur Education Association, Illinois Education Association, and the National Education Association. She enjoyed teaching 7-year-olds and watching them grow and learn.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Charleston. She enjoyed worshiping in church services, writing letters to family and friends, and reading.
Funeral services will he held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Charleston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Charleston.
