Norman Eugene Kerans, age 91, of Oakland, IL, died Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Norman was born August 17, 1932, in Charleston, IL, to Josiah Andrew and Dorthy Luladell (Shafer) Kerans. He was a veteran of the US Navy, and spent his career in education, where he was employed as Superintendent of Schools for the Oakland and Melvin-Sibley school districts. He was also involved in many community organizations including Lions club, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball games, and riding his Harley-Davidson.
Norman is survived by a son: Tim Kerans of Oakland, IL; two sisters: Margie Renshaw of Charleston, IL, and Doris Darling of Charleston, IL; two grandchildren: Anthony and Ashley; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Marilyn Mae (Henson) Kerans; a son: Tom Kerans; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials in Norman’s honor may be made to the Oakland Lions Club.
