Obituary for Nancy McQueen
Nancy Jane (Fleming) (Hatten) McQueen, age 88, of Oakland, IL died Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Nancy was born September 3, 1929 in Coles County, IL to John S. and Marietta Fleming. She married Earl L. Hatten on December 31, 1955 in Tunica, MS; he preceded her in death on December 20, 1977. She later married Roy McQueen on November 29, 1986, and he preceded her in death on December 22, 2003.
Nancy worked for General Electric in Mattoon before retiring and later worked for the Oakland Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of the Oakland Methodist Church. Nancy will be remembered for her strength and perseverance. Her talents of baking, sewing, and quilting were shared by many. All of her grandchildren received a quilt made by grandma on their high school graduation. She loved spending time with her family, her many friends and her many neighbors.
She is survived by her children: Debbie (Dave) Schackmann of Newton, IL, Cindy (Dave) Brown of Noble, IL, Randy (Kathy) Hatten of Robinson, IL, and Rodney Hatten of Arthur, IL; a stepson: Bill (Joan) McQueen of Oakland, IL; eleven grandchildren: Curtis Schackmann, Kim (Nick) Smith Tiffany (Jesse) Kocher, Myles (Emily) Brown, Megan (Brandon) Lenear, Danielle & Carly Hatten, Joe (Shawna) Hatten, Darin (Torey) Hatten, and Jake & Sarah Hatten; three step-grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a brother: John Fleming; in-laws: Frank & Doris Hatten, Otis Hatten, Jr., Shirley Hatten and Ruth Hatten; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, her parents, brother and sisters; a step-daughter, Barb McQueen; and several of her in-laws.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Oakland Senior Center.
