Nancy Jo (Covert) Clapp, age 84 of Hindsboro, IL, died Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL.
Nancy was born April 3, 1938, in Charleston, IL, to Joel Alexander and Ruth (Bugle) Covert. She married Joe Lee Clapp on June 10, 1956; Joe preceded her in death in 2012, as did her daughter-in-law, Amanda Clapp, in 2019.
She is survived by five children: Mark Clapp of Oakland, IL, Michael Clapp of Hindsboro, IL, Leslie (Larry) Durham of Chehalis, WA, Lindsay “Dee” (Larry) Karnes of Pekin, IL, and LeeAnne Clapp of Mattoon, IL; eight grandchildren: Joel (Jen) Clapp, Chelsie Clapp, Nick (Karen) Clapp, Jared (Micayla) Clapp, Dylan (Ashlee) Beam, Jessica Beam, Mackenzie Durham, and Matthew Durham; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Nancy grew up in rural Douglas County and farmed with her husband for several years before they moved to Hindsboro, where she lived for over for over 30 years.
Nancy worked as an L.P.N. in Dr. Ramsey’s practice and enjoyed her nursing career. She also served as an election judge for many years. She loved quilting, oil painting, crochet, and needle point. She also enjoyed her position as “supervisor of home remodeling” at her own home.
Nancy enjoyed boating for many years with her family, and had a close-knit group of friends (all long passed) who enjoyed having coffee and playing cards and games. Nancy was also devoted to many furbabies over the years, especially her beloved schnauzers Zeus, Wiley, Sophie, and Missy, and was a long-time supporter of the Douglas County Animal Shelter.
A private graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Van Voorhis Cemetery. For those who wish, gifts in Nancy’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Messages of sympathy may be left at www.krabelfuneralhome.com.
