Obituary for Max Ashmore
Clinton Max Ashmore, age 78, of Oakland, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Max was born July 15, 1935 in Oakland, IL to Clinton Pierce and Alice Elizabeth (Wilson) Ashmore. He married Doris Jann Tipton on January 9, 1955 at the Lerna Methodist Church; she survives. He is also survived by two children: Larry (Cathy) Ashmore of Mattoon, IL and Lynn (Doug) McQueen of Oakland, IL; a brother: Dick (Mary) Ashmore of Charleston, IL; a sister: Carol (Jady) Morgan of Charleston, IL; two grandchildren: Clint (Haley) McQueen of Oakland, IL and Cara (James) Long of Westfield, IN; and two great-grandchildren: Cooper and Adlee McQueen. Max went into farming after high school and later worked at and retired from Trailmobile. Max and Doris always spent Wednesday afternoons visiting their son and daughter-in-law in Mattoon, and he was always willing to lend a hand in whatever project they dreamed up. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating with his family at Lake Shelbyville, which he often said were his favorite times. He and Doris attended the Oakland Christian Church, and they could often be found at home watching the St. Louis Cardinals play on TV. Max was most happy when spending time with his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and never missed any of their school or sports activities. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at noon at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Shields Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the CCSCI Charitable Fund (Sarah Bush Lincoln Cancer Center), Lincolnland Hospice or the Oakland Christian Church.
