Obituary for Mary Theresa (Mulhall) Kavanaugh

Mary Theresa (Mulhall) Kavanaugh, age 88, of Chrisman, IL, died Friday, November 3, 2023, at Accolade Healthcare in Savoy, IL.

Mary was born October 3, 1935, in New York City, NY, to Edward and Mary

(Collins) Mulhall. She married Bernard Anthony Kavanaugh on June 16, 1956, in

Astoria, NY; he preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son: Edward G. Kavanaugh (Ann Gehant) of Champaign, IL; a

sister: Alice Sugarman of Suwanee, GA; four grandchildren: Bernard J. Kavanaugh,

Brittany Carrick, Bradley Kavanaugh, and Kelly Lord; and three greatgrandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son: Bernard M. Kavanaugh.

Mary was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in rural Paris, IL. She

volunteered with Faith in Action and at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living, and was

a past member of the Chrisman school board. She enjoyed playing bridge and having morning coffee with her friends.

Mary lived in Queens until she married Bernie. She came to treasure the closeness of a small town and the friendships she made throughout her years in Chrisman. Mary was proud of her Scottish and Irish ancestry, and her sense of humor was a testament to that heritage. Mary’s greatest love was her family.

A private family graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Chrisman, IL. For those who wish, memorials in Mary’s honor may be made to www.boystown.org.
