Obituary for Mary Frahm
Mary Hester Alexander Frahm, 93, of Oakland passed away on April 27, 2012 in her home. Mary was born July 2, 1918, in rural Coles County, daughter of Earl and Pearl Echard Alexander. She graduated from Brocton High School in 1936 and Illinois Business College in 1937. She married Marvin M. Frahm on March 4, 1938. Together they farmed in Douglas County until retiring in 1983. They had a daughter, Patricia Ann, who died in 2006. Mary was a long time member of Wesley Chapel Church in Newman and was active in the Women’s Club until her death. She was a dedicated volunteer to many organizations during her life, believing in the importance of giving back and helping others. She volunteered for many years at the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services in Charleston, LMI, Peace Meals and for the Crop Walk, and was awarded the Illinois volunteer-of-the-year in 1991. Mary was very involved in the Oakland community. She actively volunteered at the Senior Center, the Oakland Memorial Library and Historical Landmarks. Survivors are her grandchildren, Ron Mayfield of Oakland and LeeAnn McCue and husband, Jim, of Charlotte, NC; great grandchildren Jenn and Chris McCue, also of Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Murphy of Marshall, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Frahm was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Pearl Alexander; husband, Marvin Frahm; daughter, Patty Mayfield Hopper; and siblings, Bob and Charles Alexander, Helen Now and Mabel Nelson. A visitation will be held May 2, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. A graveside funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Albin Cemetery in Newman. A family memorial service is planned for the future. Memorial contribution may be made in lieu of flowers to Wesley Chapel Church or the Oakland Memorial Library.
