Obituary for Mary Ellen Kohn
MONMOUTH, IL --- Mary E. Kohn, age 92 of Monmouth, formerly of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, passed away at 12:15 PM, Thursday, January 7, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg. A visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 to 12:00 AM, Saturday, January 9 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Graveside services with interment will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 11 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn. Mary was born on September 4, 1917 in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of Harry and Jenny Hollister Anderson. She was educated in Glen Ellyn, and graduated from Glenbard High School in 1935. Mary then attended the Moser Business School in Chicago for one year. In 1940 she married Roy A. Williams, and he preceded her in death in 1946. She was later married to John P. Kohn from 1952 until his death in 1995. Survivors include one daughter, Judith Standard and husband Jim of Monmouth; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Standard and wife Karen of Oakland, Sarah Gagliano and husband Kenneth of Plano, Texas, and James Standard of Monmouth; three great-grandchildren, Teresa Gagliano, Addison Gagliano, and Chad Sturtz; and one great-great-grandchild, Ava Grace Sturtz. She was preceded in death by her husband, and five brothers and sisters. Mary had worked for many years for State Farm Insurance in Glen Ellyn, and later for State Mutual Insurance of Chicago, from which she retired. She enjoyed travelling, spending time at her winter home in Florida, and her dogs. A memorial fund is being established for either the Activity Fund at Courtyard Estates, or the Special Olympics.
