Obituary for Martha Louise Morris
Martha Louise Morris, 78, of Richmond, KY, passed away on June 8, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Martha Lou was born on April 1, 1940, and grew up in Metcalf, IL. She was the daughter of Lathan Buchanan Heath and Helen Louise (Coe) Heath. She was a member of the Garland Church and attended Young America High School in Hume, IL. She obtained her degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University and then began to touch the lives of every child she had the privilege of teaching. She married Donald W. Morris of Georgetown, IL in 1964. Martha Lou taught at the Chrisman Elementary school before moving to Gardner, IL, where she taught 1st Grade and accompanied the school choir for the remainder of her career. Later in life she became a member of the Coal City First United Methodist church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was known for her contagious smile, her patience with children of all ages, her cooking, and her creative talents in the areas of home décor, art, and music, especially piano. Martha Lou is survived by her two daughters: Lisa(Dale) Jury of Richmond, KY, and Gayla Smith of Goshen, IN; two sons: Michael(Anna) Morris of Twin Lakes, WI, and Mason (Angela) Morris of Gardner, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren who she loved very dearly: Lathan, Katie, Jessi, Riley, Kaitlyn, Kira, and Kennedy. She leaves behind one brother: Lathan “Butch” (Caroline) Heath, and nieces and nephews: Heather Watters, Kitty (Chad) Porter, Stewart, Heather, Jon (Mandy) and Steven. Martha Lou was preceded in death by her father and mother, and by her beloved husband, Donald. Services for Martha Lou will be held at Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman, IL, on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:30 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 12:30 p.m., and interment immediately following in Woodland Cemetery For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
