Obituary for Marlene Kay McQueen
Marlene Kay (Seaman) McQueen, age 75 of Oakland, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Marlene was born April 4, 1937 in rural Hindsboro, IL to Firth Ferrell and Ione (Ford) Seaman. She married Davie Lee McQueen on November 4, 1955 at the Hindsboro Methodist Church; he survives. She is also survived by three children: Kindra (David) Stolz, Doug (Lynn) McQueen, and Vickie McQueen; two granddaughters: Trachia (Levon) Wilson and Cara (James) Long; four grandsons: Clint (Haley) McQueen, Tim Stolz, Justin Coffey and Chaz Acord; and two great-grandchildren: Cooper and Adlee McQueen. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a son, Mickey Lee McQueen. Marlene was the owner and operator of the Oakland IGA for many years and a member of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of Eastern Star for 35 years, where she held many offices, including Worthy Matron of the Oakland Chapter and traveling the state of Illinois as Grand Martha in 2003. She was also a very active member of the Oakland Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, directed and sang in the choir and belonged to BCL. Marlene loved music and singing, and she also sang at many weddings and Eastern Star events. She spent many years boating with the love of her life and husband of 57 years, Davie, on the “Love Boat.” Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. An Eastern Star service will be held following visitation. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
