Obituary for Marjorie Ann Malaise
Marjorie Malaise, 91, of Chrisman passed away June 12 at the home of her daughter, Camilla Stanley, in Rogersville, MO. Marjorie was born in Camargo, IL, on June 20, 1922 to Tom and Kate Reeder and the family welcomed a younger sister, Mary Susan, a few years later. As a farming family during the Great Depression she attended a one-room country schoolhouse near Indianola, IL, excelled at sports and spelling bees, and graduated from nearby Sidell High School as class salutatorian in 1940. After graduating from the Champaign, IL Commercial College in 1942 and while engaging in one of her life-long passions, dancing, she met and soon married in August, 1942 Bob (Robert) Malaise, an USAF airman. After leaving the service they moved to Ridgefarm, IL, for a short time then to nearby Chrisman, IL, in 1950. Busy with raising six children Marjorie was soon involved in their extracurricular activities including teaching many 4H students their sewing skills. In 1966 the family moved to Champaign, IL, where Bob worked at the University of Illinois, and the younger children attended school. Marjorie continued to teach 4Hers to sew while working for the Jewell Food Company. In1992 Bob and Marjorie returned to Chrisman and a well-earned retirement. Throughout her life she was a wise, caring, and patient mother, and a special grandmother and great grandmother when she served her dinner rolls and ice cream treats. With her ever-present smile and caring manner, Marjorie was the perfect blend of an optimist and a realist. She could see a silver lining in every situation and always saw the best in people. Marjorie is survived by a daughter Kay Morris of Zionsville, IN, a son Robert and his wife Lee of Chrisman, a son Richard and his wife Ann of Arlington, VA, a daughter Camilla Stanley and her husband David of Rogersville, MO, a Son Rene and his wife Lana of Mahomet, IL, and a daughter Trudy Argubright and her husband Jeff of Oglesby, IL; 12 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and her husband. A period of visitation will be held at 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday June 19 at the Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman, with a service on Friday June 20 at 10 a.m. at the Chrisman United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Indianola Cemetery. Marjorie was a life-long member of the Methodist Church and in lieu of flowers a memorial at the Chrisman United Methodist Church is suggested.
