Obituary for Marilyn Jo Malone
Marilyn Jo (Owen) Malone, age 76, of Chrisman went home to be with the Lord on August 19, 2013 at Paris Community Hospital. She was born July 13, 1937 at Lakeview Hospital in Danville, IL to John Harlan Owen and Maxine Elizabeth (Kendall) Owen. She married E. Scott Malone on July 21, 1977 at the United Methodist Church in Sidell. Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Chrisman. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1971. After student teaching at Crestwood School in Paris, Marilyn accepted her first teaching assignment in Ridge Farm—teaching second grade at Harrison School. She began teaching elementary school in Chrisman in 1975 and retired in 1999—an educator for almost 30 years. Prior to her teaching career, she was elected Ross Township Assessor on April 6, 1965. She served a four year term in that role. Marilyn was an active member of the Chrisman United Methodist Church and most recently attended Scottland United Methodist Church where she played the piano for many years. Through the years she was an active volunteer in the Peace meal program, delivering meals to those in need. She was currently volunteering at the Edgar County Historical Society. Music and gardening were lifelong passions. Marilyn was a servant leader whose highest priorities in life were her family, her friends, and her students. That is her legacy. She is survived by four children: Mark (Patty) Varner of Springfield, IL, Mike (Renee) Varner of Vernon Hills, IL, Mike (Donna) Malone of Chrisman, IL and Melinda (Rodney) Wolfe of Chrisman, IL; ten grandchildren: John Varner, Kate Varner, Michael Varner, Matthew Varner, Meredith Varner, Kayla (Mike) Quick, Kenzie (Jon) Simpson, Josie Malone, Candy Schupp and Zack Hunter and two great grandchildren, Sydney and Wyatt Quick. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Scott Malone; her brother, John Kendall Owen and an infant sister, Mary Jane Owen. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman. A private family burial will be held at Hoult Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CHS Band Boosters, Chrisman Public Library, or Peace Meals
