Obituary for Lyda M Byers
HINDSBORO, IL ---- Lyda M. "Toots" Byers, age 89 of Mattoon, formerly of Hindsboro, passed away at 3:20 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Arthur Home in Arthur. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 25 at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland. Burial will be in VanVoorhis Cemetery north of Hindsboro. Visitation with the family will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Lyda Malissa was born on July 11, 1920 in Hindsboro, the daughter of Bert and Lizzie Ridge Ford. She attended school in Hindsboro. On December 21, 1940 she married Donald C. Byers in St. Charles, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 1966. Survivors include one daughter, Loretta Jean “Sissy” Byers of Allenville; three granddaughters, Brandy McCullough of Mattoon, Sue Hiller of Minot, North Dakota, and Sara Bendler of Allenville; four great-grandchildren, Amanda, Chris, Victoria, and Tasha; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son Duane, two grandchildren, three brothers, and four sisters. Lyda was a homemaker, and worked as a house cleaner. She enjoyed crocheting, trips to Crystal Lake to visit her family, and her special dog “Boots”. A memorial fund is being established for the Coles County Animal Shelter.
