Lloyd J. Krabel, 83, of Brocton, Ill., passed away Monday, October 20 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was retired after a lifetime of farming.

Mr. Krabel was born December 19, 1930 in Hume, Ill. to George and Blanche (Wade) Krabel. He married Mary Lou Craig on June 11, 1950. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2010.

Survivors include: three children, Connie Weber of Brocton, Ray (Lisa) Krabel of Brocton, and Marsha (Kevin) Smith of Hume; one sister, Donna (Max) Salmon of Peoria; six grandchildren, Tiffany Krabel of Paris, Jennifer (Jason) Weber-Hall of Brocton, Jeremy (Nicole) Smith of Chicago, Erin Krabel (Jordan Lauritzen) of Oakland, Alison Smith of Chicago, and Katie Weber of Danville; three great-grandchildren, Emily Hall of Brocton, Cooper Smith of Chicago, and Jaxson Lauritzen of Oakland; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Mr. Krabel was a lifelong resident of the Brocton area. He was a trustee of the Brocton Fire Department and a member of the Brocton Methodist Church for many years. He served as Clerk for Embarrass Township, as well as a Commissioner of the Embarrass drainage district.

He was an active member of the Brocton community. An avid storyteller, he enjoyed socializing wherever he went. For many years, he and his wife spent countless hours dancing all over the countryside. He loved being outdoors on the farm, especially tending to his famous garlic. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and watching his many descendants grow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brocton Firemen’s Association or the American Lung Association.
