Obituary for Linda J. Robards
Linda Jean (Eckerty) Robards, age 71, of Toledo, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 2, 2021, in Dunlap, Illinois. Linda was born March 10, 1950, in Charleston, Illinois to Francis and Norma (Slusser) Eckerty. She was a teacher in the Neoga School district for 38 years. After retiring, her love for teaching, and for shaping the lives of students, lead her back to the classroom as a substitute teacher. Linda substituted in several local School Districts and in Dunlap School District in recent years. She was passionate about education, genuinely cared about her students and left a lasting impression in countless lives. As Henry Brooks Adams stated, “Teachers affect eternity; no one can tell where their influence stops.” Linda lived life to the fullest whether in the classroom or outside with friends and family. The thing that brightened her heart and her life the most was time spent with her family and friends. Linda loved her children and grandchildren fiercely. She loved anything involving family time. She treasured time spent playing games, talking, watching her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, cooking with her grandchildren and just laughing with those she loved. Linda loved experiencing new things, traveling, attending live music and theatre and reading. Her love of learning never stopped. Linda loved being a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #1078 in Dunlap, Illinois and treasured the many friendships she formed. She was also a member of Eastern Star. Linda was always there to care for a loved one and was a caretaker to many. Her warm, inviting spirit won the hearts of those that encountered her. Linda didn’t know a stranger, and if you were one, you wouldn’t be for long. Her energy, charisma and smile brightened a room; she was truly one of a kind. She is survived by two children: Brad (Marcela) Krabel of Leslie, Michigan and Melinda Krabel Doty of Dunlap, Illinois; two brothers: Jack (Pat) Eckerty of Austin, Texas and Don (Marquita) Eckerty of Naples, Florida; and seven grandchildren: Karina Krabel, Jaiden Miamen, Josiah Miamen, Mason Krabel, Isabel Krabel, Jeremiah Doty, and Cole Krabel. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services for all family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairfield Cemetery. The family looks forward to reminiscing and hearing your favorite Linda stories.
