Obituary for Lester Wayne Grissom
Lester Wayne Grissom, age 74, of Chrisman, Illinois passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Paris Community Hospital. He was born on August 8, 1939 in Paris, Illinois to Jesse Lester and Ruby Fern (Bishop) Grissom. On November 6, 1959, he married Sallie Sue Glick at the First Baptist Church in Charleston, Illinois. Wayne was a member and past master of Masonic Bloomfield Lodge # 148, Scottish Rite – Valley of Danville, Ansar Shrine and Edgar County Shrine Club. He was the owner/operator of Grissom Electric from 1971 until 1982. He, also, was an electrician at Eli Lilly until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed playing golf, being out at the farm and researching genealogy. He was a ham radio operator, with call sign WA9ATU. Most of all, Wayne dearly loved being surrounded by his family. Wayne is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sallie; two children: Kim Hall of Chrisman, IL and Bradley (Tracy) Grissom of Bismarck, IL; two brothers: Robert (Barbara) Grissom of Virden, IL and James Grissom of Indianola, IL; four sisters: Lillie (Richard) Rodeffer of Catlin, IL, Lynn West of Tilton, IL, Peggy (Warren) Hack of Danville, IL and Katie Hoggatt of Ridge Farm, IL; one sister in law, Mickie Jonas of Danville, IL; four grandchildren: Andrea (Rocky) Thornton of Chrisman, IL, Faith Grissom, Jonas Grissom and Hope Grissom all of Bismarck, IL; two great-grandchildren: Rocky Thornton and Sierra Thornton both of Chrisman, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Nina Skovira and one brother, Allen Grissom. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman. Masonic rites will follow immediately after visitation. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hoult Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Northern Edgar County Ambulance Service or the Chrisman Fireman’s Association.
