Obituary for Lester Brown
Lester Gene Brown, age 70, of Ashmore, IL, passed away peacefully with family on Friday, October 31, 2014 at his daughter’s residence in Charleston, IL.
Lester was born March 10, 1944 in Mattoon, IL to Charles and Neva (Kearney) Brown. He married Mary Lou Bradford on November 17, 1972; she survives.
He is also survived by two children: Andrea Brown of Ashmore, IL and Natalie (Kermit) Boyer of Charleston, IL; two brothers: Orville Brown of Greenup, IL and Roy Reed of Bruce, IL; two sisters: Patty Massy of Oregon, IL and Gladys Thompson of Pensacola, FL; and two grandchildren: Melinda Swinford and Shelby Swinford of Ashmore, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and one sister.
Lester was a longtime resident of the Ashmore area. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Army and a member of the Mattoon V.F.W. Post 4325 and the Mattoon American Legion Post 88. He was a gifted woodcarver and sculptor. He enjoyed making jewelry, collecting rocks and minerals and participating in the Lapidary Society, classical music and art. A lover of animals and people, Lester will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at noon. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery.
