Obituary for Leola "Lee" Hale
Leola “Lee” Gem Custis Hale, age 68, of Oakland, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 7:20 p.m. in her home with family after an extended battle with lung cancer. She was born November 13, 1948 in Valparaiso, IN, the daughter of Ralph and Lura (Hills) Custis. Lee married William Leroy Hale on August 3, 1969 in Florence, AZ; he survives. She attended the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Oakland, IL. Lee enjoyed bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She dearly loved her family and all of her animals. She was featured in the Sarah Bush health magazine as the first to receive new Immune Therapy Optivo in Illinois. Lee was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald (Janice) Custis of Coolidge, AZ and Fred (Corine) Custis. She is survived by her children, Laura (Greg) Hanks of Gays, IL; Jason (Rosemary) Hale of Tuscola, IL; and Helena (Jeff) VanTassel of Charleston, IL; a brother, Dan (Patsy) Custis, of Lakeside, AZ; a sister, Lois (Ray) Custis-Pullins of Hebron, IN; and her grandchildren Vincent (Stephanie) Hale, Keith (Stella) VanTassel; Tristan VanTassel; Alisha VanTassel; Kyle Hanks, Josh Hanks, Tabitha Hanks, Austin Hale, Cody Hale and Dustin Hale. Services celebrating her life will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL, with a visitation on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 5-7p.m. Monetary memorials in Lee’s name may be made to the family.
