Obituary for Laura Joan Griest
Laura Joan Griest, age 85, of Charleston, and formerly of Oakland, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Lakewood Village in Charleston. Jo was born May 18, 1927 in Newman, IL to Joseph and Ruth (Hallowell) Hawkins. She married Robert Lewis Griest. She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, the Elks and the Republican Women’s Group. She loved keeping her home, entertaining friends and family, and was a great cook. Jo is survived by her son: Terry Griest and wife, Kim, of Columbia, IL; two sisters: Felda Ingram of Mt. Vernon, IL and Evelyn Farrier of Charleston, IL; two grandchildren: Jacob Allen Griest and Adam Lewis Griest of Columbia, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral, beginning at noon. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
