Obituary for Larry Max Yaw
Larry Max Yaw was born March 25, 1941 to Lawrence Temple Yaw and Beulah Mae Fields Yaw in Terre Haute, Indiana. He married Dorothy Carole Bonwell on July 11, 1964 and she survives. He passed away on December 19, 2021. Mr. Yaw was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Derrick McCormick. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, one sister, Patricia Norris of Jenison, MI, four daughters: Lisa McCormick of West Palm Beach, FL; Elizabeth Yaw (Ahmed) Al-Khalifa of Doha, Qatar; Elaine (Karla)Yaw of Chrisman; and Allison (Dio) Parks of Lexington, KY; and five grandchildren: Amber McCormick of West Palm Beach, FL; Cody Parks of Lexington, KY; Ensign Austin Parks of the U.S. Navy; Nasser Al-Khalifa of Doha, Qatar; and Max Gabriel Parks of Lexington, KY.

Larry loved Reese’s Cups, horses, horse racing, casinos, basketball (especially Elaine and Allison playing and Illini basketball), football and working with his sawmill. He enjoyed watching the grandchildren play, and especially watching Derrick play basketball and football, Amber and Cody running track and cross-country, and Austin, Nasser and Max playing soccer. The highlight of his summers in the 80’s & 90’s was taking daughter Allison to the horse shows and watching her barrel race on Fizzbomb and show English on Barbie, where they made many friends.
He was very proud of his four daughters and their professions. Lisa is a nurse; Elizabeth was in Healthcare Finance; Elaine is an Associate Professor; and Allison is a Special Education teacher. It was his hope for them to get their Doctoral degrees: Elizabeth has started on this path in a doctoral program of Global Leadership.
Larry was involved in several activities: Chrisman Area Community Club, Chrisman Horseshow Association, Superintendent of the Edgar County Fair Western Horseshow, past member of the Edgar County Farm Bureau Board, Brouilletts Creek Township Clerk, and Multi-Township Assessor.

He graduated from Blackhawk High School, Saint Anthony Hospital School of Radiologic Technology and attained a B.S. degree in Life Sciences from Indiana State University. He worked as a Radiologic Technologist at Saint Anthony Hospital for many years. He left Radiology and farmed with his brother-in-law, Eddie Bonwell, in Edgar County, Illinois for several years. He then went back to the Radiology field and was instrumental in starting the Radiologic Technology Program at Ivy Tech Community College and served as the Director of the program for three years. Larry later started a mobile Radiological Company, Quarter Rad, Inc., that provided x-ray services to Nursing Homes and Prisons. In 2005, he sold the company and retired to pursue working with his sawmill.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27th from 5 – 7 p.m. CST at Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 28th at 11 a.m. CST at Krabel Funeral Home. The family requests that masks be worn. Burial will follow in Friends Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in his memory.
