Obituary for Kim Ann Duchnowski
Kim Ann (Vander Leest) Duchnowski, age 59, of Hindsboro, IL, passed Friday, November 4, 2016 at her home, after a prolonged treatment for acute myeloid leukemia.
Kim was born May 5, 1957 in Peoria, IL to Kenneth and Sondra (Matthew) Vander Leest. She married Lenard Joseph Duchnowski on December 27, 1976 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Pekin, IL.
She was an artist at heart and created framed fabric art, quilts, decorative tile and purses for friends and family, as well as for her home. She loved working in her gardens and caring for her dogs and the other animals on Willow Walk Farm. She was active in her children's education as a classroom volunteer, PTO president and Girl Scout Troop leader. As her children got older, she also hosted foreign exchange students.
She is survived by her husband: Lenard Duchnowski; three children: Jillian Duchnowski (Rob Carroll) of Rockford, IL, Alexander (Mia) Duchnowski of Chicago, IL, and Nicholas Duchnowski of Louisville, KY; her father: Kenneth Vander Leest of Peoria, IL; a brother: Kurt (Lisa) Vander Leest; a sister: Krista Vander Leest of Springfield, IL; and three grandchildren: Tabytha, Thiesson and Kempson Duchnowski. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother: Kent Vander Leest.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to "Lenard Duchnowski for the benefit of SBL Cancer Center" (send to 2210 E County Road 275N, Hindsboro, IL, 61930), to provide a larger combined named gift to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Cancer Center in Mattoon, IL.
