Karen Sue (Kite) Salmon, age 83, of Tolono, IL, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Sue was born February 8, 1943, in Akron, OH, to Reese William and Guyla Madeline (Eads) Kite. She married William Roger Salmon on May 1, 1959; he preceded her in death. Sue was also proceeded in death by her parents, her sister Patricia Brown, her granddaughter, Holly Jo Billman, and her great niece, Ava Grace Apple.
Sue is survived by two daughters: Patty Hicks (Michael) of Tolono, IL and Kim Salmon Mitchell of Tolono; a sister: Janet Apple (Larry) of Oakland, IL; two grandchildren: Ashley Edwards (Eddie) and Mason Billman; and four great-grandchildren: Reid Edwards, Holly Edwards, Millie Billman, and Maverick Billman.
Sue was a member of the Red Hat Society, and enjoyed playing cards with her weekly club, shopping, puzzles, and crafts. She also loved fishing, and would cook up any game that she or her family caught. Most of all, Sue loved her family dearly and found great joy in cooking for them.
A graveside funeral will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in rural Oakland, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in Sue’s honor be made to The Giving Place at PO Box 610 Tolono, IL or to the Champaign County Humane Society.
