Joseph “Joey” Lee Frantz, age 54, passed away peacefully in his home in Mattoon, IL on June 13, 2025. He was born on February 21, 1971.
Joey was a proud Navy veteran who faithfully served his country, including during Desert Storm. His kindness, loyalty, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him. During his service, he was recognized with several awards, including the Meritorous Unit Commendation, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Battle “E” Ribbon — a testament to his discipline, courage, and devotion.
Joey previously worked for over 20 years at Carstin Brands, Inc. in Arthur, Illinois, where his strong work ethic and friendship made a significant, positive impact.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Coy Squires, Sr.; his grandmother, Alma Squires; his sister, Tonya Etnire; his niece, Brittany Frantz; and Uncle, Joseph Squires.
Joey is survived by his loving parents, Lonnie and Glenda Heffren; his brother, Robert Frantz, Jr (Teresa Groves); his sister Jaime Campbell (Fiancé Joshua Kuykendall); his brother, Joshua Forbes; step sister Melissa (Bruce) Hofstetter; his nieces, Kenady Wallace (Fiancé Jesse Janes), Dee Campbell, Kiera Campbell, and Brooke Frantz; and his nephews, Bailey Wallace, Ty Campbell, and Jayden Etnire; Uncle Coy, Jr. (Susan) Squires and Uncle Ron (Jane) Squires; and several cousins.
Joey’s memory will be cherished by his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family suggests performing a random act of kindness in Joey's honor.
