Jorja Lee (Honn) Henry, 91, passed away on Monday, November 11th, 2024 at 3:02 a.m. at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL. She was born on June 2, 1933, in Oakland, IL to Cecil Emma Ford Honn and Leonard Odin "Slim" Honn. She lived in Oakland her entire life. Jorja married Donald "Gene" Henry on September 3, 1952 at the Cornbread and Bean Festival in Oakland, IL. They had three sons,
David (Sally), of Ponte Vedra, FL, Mark (Alison) of Oakland, IL and Daniel (Laura) of Arcola, IL.
They have 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Jorja has many nieces and nephews whom she was very close to.
She attended Oakland High School and was a good student and a cheerleader. Jorja began dating Gene in high school and introduced him to the Oakland Christian Church where they attended and served faithfully many years.
Jorja was a Christian first, mother and homemaker. After her children were grown, she worked at Eastern Illinois University in the book store and later retired from the University of Illinois Student Union Food Service.
Crochet, embroidery and reading were among Jorja's interests. She enjoyed meeting with ladies from the church for Bible Study, attended BCL meetings and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jorja was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, nine siblings, including five brothers, Ford, Othel, Waldo, Thomas and Leonard Honn and four sisters, Ida Babb, Ruth Morgan, Kathryn VanVoorhis and Patricia Edwards.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Pastor Brad Reineke will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Oakland Christian Church.
